Backstory Details

Monty “Count” De Monet grew up in a rough neighborhood where crime was the norm and the law was often bought. A prodigy with numbers, he quickly caught the eye of a local mob boss who recognized his potential. By his early twenties, Count became the mob’s go-to accountant, skillfully laundering money, hiding assets, and ensuring that the mob’s finances were untouchable by the authorities.

Count’s life of crime ended abruptly when he was betrayed by a rival within the mob. A setup led to his arrest, and despite his skills, he was sentenced to life in prison. He died behind bars, but his story didn’t end there. The government, corrupt and desperate for someone who understood the financial underworld, performed a forbidden ritual to raise Count from the dead as a skeleton. With his undead status came an eternity of servitude, but also an opportunity for revenge and redemption.

Reanimated as a skeletal tax collector, Count was tasked with using his knowledge of criminal finance to squeeze every possible penny from both honest citizens and fellow criminals. The government saw him as the perfect tool: incorruptible by death, relentless in his pursuit, and unmatched in his understanding of illicit financial flows.

However, Count’s resurrection didn’t strip him of his will or his desire for justice. He quickly realized that the very government that brought him back was as corrupt as the mobsters he once worked for. Driven by a desire to overthrow the oppressive regime, Count began secretly siphoning off funds from his collections. He funneled these resources into a covert rebellion.

Count’s ultimate goal is to amass enough power and resources to lead a revolution against the corrupt government and raise his own.

Count retains his sharp mind and calculating nature from his days as a mob accountant. He is methodical, patient, and strategic, always thinking several steps ahead. His skeletal form gives him an eerie, intimidating presence, which he uses to his advantage when dealing with those who try to hide their wealth. Despite his grim appearance, Count has a dry wit and a deep sense of justice, which he reveals only to those he trusts.

Count faces numerous challenges, including the constant threat of discovery by the government, the need to maintain his cover as a loyal tax collector, and the moral complexities of leading a rebellion. He must navigate a world where allies can quickly become enemies, and where every move he makes is a calculated risk.
